30 June. Day 8. Finally sunny, and finally gas hydrates!
Destination: Malenky MV. Finally sunny. We continued our profile across Malenky MV.

We are all awake before breakfast. Today we sampled one of the southernmost profiles perpendicular to the Gydratny fault (Profile F).
Our target for the day is Gorevoy Utes area. This is a unique locality where oil is seeping at a depth of ~850 m. This locality was studied even by the “MIR” manned submersible. Despite all efforts, so far, it remains unclear what is the extension of this seepage area. Fresh oil slicks continuously appear on the water surface surrounding the boat.
We are continuing, hoping to collect large gas hydrates crystals. Today we aim to complete a profile in the Ukhan area. The profile intersects the Ukhan MV and runs perpendicular to a very steep escarpment that runs parallel to the east coast of Olkhon Island
We have just completed the 400th station of the Class@Baikal program and celebrated this great team work achievement of 6 years of training and research sailing in Baikal!
6 hours of sleep is not enough, now I know… And again and again more cores are coming…
The first day of real TTR.
The scientific team of the 6th Class@Baikal cruise is finally grouped. Sleepy and tired people from Oslo and Moscow were welcomed at the airport by the friendly colleagues from Irkutsk. Destination Listvyanka.
